What Is Reiki? A Gentle Introduction to Energy Healing
If you have ever felt the quiet that settles over you after a long exhale, you already understand something of Reiki. The word joins two Japanese ideas: Rei, the universal, and Ki, the life force that moves through every living being. Reiki is the practice of resting in that current — of letting the body remember its own rhythm of healing.
A practice of stillness, not effort
In a Reiki session you lie comfortably, fully clothed, while the practitioner rests their hands lightly on or just above the body. There is no massage, no manipulation, no pressure. The work is subtle: a warm, quiet attentiveness that many people experience as warmth, tingling, or simply deep rest.
Nothing is required of you. Some people drift toward sleep; others simply notice their breathing slow. Both are equally welcome — Reiki asks only that you arrive.
Why people come
Most visitors arrive carrying the ordinary weight of modern life: restless sleep, a mind that will not quiet, a body held in low-grade tension. Reiki does not diagnose or replace medical care; instead, it supports relaxation, meditation, and overall well-being — the ground from which the body's own balancing can begin.
At Rei Tatva, Reiki sits at the heart of everything we do. It is the gentle thread that runs through our crystal work, our chakra practices, and our approach to daily rhythm.
Beginning your own practice
Reiki is also something you can learn. Through structured levels of study and self-practice, many people develop a personal daily ritual — a few quiet minutes each morning that change the texture of the whole day.
If you are curious, the best introduction is simply to receive a session and notice, without expectation, what the stillness brings.
